BAR HARBOR – Claudine “Dean” Velma Hauer, 89, died May 29, 2005, at a MDI hospital. She was born Sept. 2, 1915, at Islesford, the daughter of Edgar C. and Ethel R. (Stanley) Black. Dean was a certified registered State of Maine Guide for many years. She was an avid sportswoman and she and her late husband, Bill, shared the love of the outdoors, hunting and fishing. Many good times were spent at their camp at Graham Lake. She worked for her mother at the Dow Cottage Inn in Bar Harbor for many years. She is survived by a son, William Hauer Jr. and wife, Jane, and a daughter, Bea Gray, all of Bar Harbor; six grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband, William Hauer Sr.; one son-in-law, Leslie Gray Jr.; one sister, Mabel Jordan; one bother, Lawrence Black. Friends are invited to call from 1-2 p.m. Wednesday, June 1, 2005, with funeral services to follow at Jordan-Fernald, 48 Eden Street, Bar Harbor, with the Rev. Dr. Sandra M. Reed presiding. Those who desire may make contributions in dean’s memory to the charity of ones choice.
