ROCKWOOD – Mildred C. Whitten, 92, died peacefully May, 29, 2005, at the C.A. Dean Hospital in Greenville, surrounded by her family. She was born Aug. 31, 1912, in Benton, the daughter of Harry and Alice (Roderick) Rancourt. She moved to Rockwood in 1929, and married the late Morton Whitten in 1934. For many years they operated Whitten’s Sporting Camps. Mildred loved living on the shores of Moosehead Lake. She was an active communicant of the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockwood. She is survived by a son, Guy Whitten of Rockwood; a daughter and her husband, Jo-Ann and Robert Somers, of Dorset, Vt.; five brothers, Reggie, John, Harry, Leon and Kenneth; three sisters, Geraldine, Marion, and Marguerite; five grandchildren, Alex and Travis Whitten, and Rob, Brad, and Lance Somers; nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a granddaughter, Lesley Anne Whitten. A Memorial Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated, 10 a.m. Saturday, June 4, 2005, at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Rockwood, with the Rev. Fr. William Modlin officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at the Greenville Cemetery, with a reception following at 1 p.m. at Maynard’s in Rockwood. In lieu of flowers donations may be sent to the C.A. Dean Hospital, P.O.
