ISLAND FALLS – Clifford O. “Kicky” Hawkes, 84, died June 19, 2004, at the Maine Veterans Home in Bangor. He was born April 11, 1920, in Island Falls, the son of Harry and Margaret “Hope” (Clifford) Hawkes. Kicky was a veteran of World War II, serving with the 414th Night fighter Squadron in North Africa and Italy. He was a member and past commander of the King Mitchell Post VFW No. 7529, a member of the Island Falls Masonic lodge No. 206 AF & AM, the Whittier Congregational Church, Island Falls, where he was a trustee and was an avid Red Sox fan. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Riva (Donham) Hawkes of Island Falls; one son, Thomas and his wife, Linda Hawkes, of Glenburn; three grandchildren, Michelle Ramirez of Florida, Kelly Tully of Isle Au Haut, and Christopher Hawkes of Glenburn; five great-grandchildren, Alexander, Shane and Jessica Ramirez, Joshua Hawkes and Alexander Tully; one sister, Phyllis Jenkins of Bow, N.H.; one brother, James Hawkes of Frederick, Md. He was predeceased by his parents; and one brother, Harry. A graveside funeral service will be held 4 p.m. Friday, June 25, at the Island Falls Cemetery, with the Rev. Rodger Goode officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Whittier Congregational Church, Island Falls, ME 04747 or to the Bowers Funeral Home, P.O. Box 579, Houlton, ME 04730.
