LUBEC – Clifton Wyman Schofield, 63, passed away unexpectedly after an extended ill-ness on Jan. 10, 2004, at Maine Medical Center in Portland. He was born in Lubec, June 25, 1940, the son of Vance and Hannah Schofield. He served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard, retiring in 1978. During his service, he received the National Defense Service Medal, 1st and 2nd Good Conduct Certificate, and the Cutterman’s Insignia. After retirement, he was very active in the American Legion Stuart-Green Post No. 65 in Lubec, and loved to call Beano at the V.F.W. Clifton enjoyed life and the many friends he had in Lubec. In 2003, he moved to Vassalboro to be close to Togus for his dialysis treatments. He made many friends there and was especially close to Jeanne Roy, his “house mother.” He made friends wherever he went and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He leaves behind a brother, Valmore V. Schofield and wife, Linda, of Hampton, Va.; and a sister, Lurana McCreadie and her companion, Darryl Fairfield of Hope; an aunt, Dora Maker of Machias; three nieces and a nephew; seven grandnieces and a step-nephew; many cousins and many, many friends, including his best and oldest friend, Thelma “Toot” Quirk of Lubec. He was predeceased by his parents; and three infant brothers, Wayne, Brad and Vance Jr. Visiting hours will be held from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2004, at the Lubec Christian Temple Church, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 15, 2004, with Pastor Gary Look officiating. Interment will be held in the spring in Corey Cemetery.
