CLINTON R. HAYWARD SR. CALAIS – Clinton R. Hayward Sr., 82, died May 24, 2004, at a Calais hospital. He was born Dec. 10, 1921, in Baring, the son of Henry and Blanche (Howland) Hayward. Clint and his wife, Ruth, owned and operated Hayward’s Ceramic Studio in Calais for 40 years. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Blanche Hayward; one son, David Hayward; one sister, K. Corliss Keef; two brothers, Hazen and Sam Hayward; and a grandson Joshua Hancock. Surviving are his wife, Ruth (Davis) Hayward of Calais; five daughters, Betty-Jean Bisson of Minneapolis, Janet Yardley, Debbie Hancock and Marcia Hayward, all of Calais, Karel MacKay of Dorchester, Mass.; one son, Clinton Hayward Jr. of Winslow; five sisters, Marion “Sissy” Johnson of Meddybemps, Jeri-Mae “Aggle” McCoy of California, Ann Hacker of Ottawa, Canada, Sara Cameron and Patty Hayward, both of Calais; one brother, Jon Hayward of Winston-Salem, N.C.; 17 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and a special feline friend, “Sweetheart”. Memorial services will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 28, at the Scott-Wilson Funeral Home, Calais, with Pastor Bob Hinton officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to service time. Burial will follow in the Calais Cemetery.
