GARFIELD PLANTATION Clyde Eastman Sr., 76, died June 25, 2004, at his residence in Garfield. He was born May 8, 1928, in Masardis, the son of Perley and Flora (Libby) Eastman. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the LeBlanc-Junkins Post No. 9699 of Ashland. Following his service in the Army, he returned to Garfield where he was employed by the state of Maine at the fire tower at Squa Pan Mountain and at Porter Seed Farms. He then worked as a mechanic at Tibbett’s Garage in Ashland for several years. In the early 1970s he went to work in the logging industry as a truck driver for John Cobb until his retirement. He then was employed as a seasonal farm worker for M&M Farms in the Ashland area. His favorite times were spent with his family at their camp on the Machias River. He especially enjoyed the hunting season with his special hunting partner, Tom Bushey of Masardis. Clyde is survived by his wife of more than 40 years, Olean (York) Eastman of Garfield; two sons, Clyde Eastman Jr. of Ashland, James A. Eastman of Garfield; two daughters, Susan Bushey and her fianc?, Kendall McHatten, of Mapleton, Lori McKenzie and Paul Hardison of Presque Isle; three stepchildren, Ann Casey of Sheridan, Polly Harvey and her husband, Ron, of Fort Fairfield, and Wendell F. Gillis of Garfield; one brother, Perley I. Eastman an his wife, Freda, of Garfield; three sisters, Gloria Russell and Filene Stevens, both of Garfield, Lorraine Parlin and her husband, Leighton, of Presque Isle; 13 grandchildren, John and Cathy Casey, Doug McDonald, Greg Gillis, Lori Ann Ouellette, Tina Stoltz, Melanie Cote, Patricia Craig, Rick and Amanda McKenzie, Angela Saucier, Dustin and Joshua Eastman; 17 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a stepdaughter, Jennie McDonald; one sister, Evelyn “Molly” Mountain; three brothers-in-law, Derek Russell, Kenneth Stevens, and Eugene Mountain. Relatives and friends may call 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Stimson-Ouellette Funeral Home, 114 Exchange St., Ashland. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the St. Mark Catholic Church with the Rev. Scott Mower, pastor, officiating.
