OWLS HEAD – Clyde F. Pease, 91, died Saturday, March 26, 2005, at Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland. He was born March 21, 1914, in Belfast, the son of Mander F. and Effie Ripley Pease. He attended local schools and graduated from Crosby High School in 1932. While in high school, Mr. Pease played the tenor saxophone and worked as a delivery boy for Hall Hardware. After graduation, he played clarinet or saxophone, depending on what instrument was needed, in local dance bands, and began working for Puritan Clothing Stores, Rockland. In 1942, after working for 10 years at Puritan, Mr. Pease joined the Army and was stationed in the Pacific working with radar. He was discharged in 1946. Returning to civilian life, Mr. Pease returned to work at Puritan and continued playing the clarinet. He met his future wife while playing at a dance and on Nov. 16, 1946, married Elizabeth “Betty” McAlary. Mr. Pease was employed at Puritan until 1966 when he started as a route representative in the midcoast area with Dakin’s Sporting Goods of Bangor. He retired from Dakins in February, 1980. The year after his marriage, the couple bought a camp on Megunticook Lake. He enjoyed fishing as well as working on and around the camp. Starting with a small garden of tomatoes, cukes and roses, he eventually grew a large garden every year, until he went to the hospital March 2nd of this year. Mr. Pease enjoyed working on fixing, and repairing almost anything, such as plumbing, electrical, woodworking and small engines. He also enjoyed reading. He was predeceased by his parents in 1954; his wife, Betty in March, 2004; half-brother, Charles Heal in 1977; and half sister, Mildred Heal Colcord in 1953. Mr. Pease is survived by his daughter, Glen Elizabeth Pease of Owls Head. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m., Friday, April 1, 2005, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. The Rev. Dr. D. Elizabeth Mauro will officiate.
