FRANKLIN – Colleen “Peg-gy” Kidder, 78, born July 9, 1929, passed away peacefully the evening of Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at Maine Coast Memorial Hospital, Ellsworth. She was predeceased by her parents, Grace and Rod Jordan. She is survived by her cousins, Harold Cook and family, Franklin Taylor and family, Sandra, and Anne Stanley and family; her daughters, Becky Golden, Darlene Brodie and Karen Ash; her grandchildren, Derek and Jennifer Ash; and her great-granddaughter, Gwyneth Ash. Peggy, or Nanee, as she was called since no one dared call her Colleen, was born in Whiteville, N.C., and her heart remained there through all her days, though she lived many happy years with her family in Maine. She was famous for her pimento cheese, her Southern catch phrases and her “monster pills,” which she took to playfully scare her grandchildren. She worked for many years at the local IGA, until it closed and made many friends during her time there. She loved animals, had many beloved pets during her lifetime and donated a great deal of money to animal charities. She never lost her Southern accent or attitude and she was always a sunny patch of Southern warmth in this chilly Northern state. She had many beloved friends, who loved her dearly, whom Peggy easily included in her heart as members of her own family. She was a strong woman, a proud survivor of many hard-times and a good Christian woman, whose faith in God never wavered through all the trials she faced in her life. Most importantly, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grand-mother. She will be missed, but we are thankful for the time we had her here. “Dear Heavenly Father, we thank thee for these and all of the blessings we ask in Christ’s name. Amen.” Respecting Peggy’s own strongly expressed wishes, there will be no services held for her. Instead, the family asks that donations be made to Maine Coast Memorial Hospital’s family-hospitality room in Peggy’s name, in lieu of flowers or other gifts. Dear friends, you are invited to attend the morning worship service 11 a.m. Sunday, Jan. 27, at Ells-worth United Methodist Church, 21 Hancock St., Ellsworth. During the service a sterling silver pitcher will be dedicated in memory of Colleen “Peggy” Kidder. The pitcher will be used during each communion service as part of the communion ritual – cleansing of the hands – for persons who will be serving the elements to the communicants.
