LINNEUS – Merland H. Little, 81, died Jan. 19, 2008, at a local health care facility. He was born Aug. 3, 1926, in Linneus, the son of John S. And Martha (Bates) Little. Merland served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. He was employed for 12 years with James S. Peabody Co., and then was self-employed doing woods work with his son. Merland’s greatest joy was his family, children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and his extended family. He and his wife, Beatrice, opened their home as foster parents for 22 years. He is survived by his wife, Beatrice L. (Carmichael) Little of Linneus; three sons and their wives, Larry and Naomi, Steven and Vicki, all of Linneus, and David and Sandy of Hodgdon; extended family, Robbie and his wife, Beth Seward, of Hodgdon, Rose Seward and Ruth Seward, both of Houlton, Stanley Swallow, Philip Lint and June Lam. He is also survived by 11 special grandchildren, 10 special great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; three brothers, Glen, Merton and Earl; and one sister, Marion Little Proctor. A private funeral service with military honors will be held at Dunn Funeral Home, Houlton. Spring Interment will take place at Linneus Cemetery.
