CORA L. MCLEOD WINTERPORT – Cora Lewis McLeod, 87, wife of the late Lewis L. McLeod died Sept. 12, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born May 27, 1918, in Johnson City, N.Y., the daughter of Will C. and Florence D. (Blaisdell) Lewis. Cora attended school in Binghamton, N.Y. and in 1928 moved to Winterport. She attended Winterport schools graduating from Winterport High School in 1936, she also graduated from Gilman Commercial College in Bangor. She married Lewis “Mac” McLeod on Dec. 31, 1946. She served as Regent of RAMASOC Chapter, Maine Society, Daughters of the American Revolution of Bucksport three times. She was past president of American Legion Auxiliary Post No. 12. past president of the Winterport Health Council, past president of the Winterport Historical Society, past president of the Small Library of Maine Association. Cora served 22 years as town librarian at the Winterport Memorial Library. She was a member and twice served as Regent of Cushing Chapter of OES. She was always active in town, county and state affairs and enjoyed knitting, sewing, gardening, cooking, volunteering in the community and traveling with her family She is survived by two sons, William L. McLeod of Mt. Hally, N.C., Nat B. McLeod of Winterport; one grandson, Patric McLeod of Burlington, Vt. She was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, “Mac” in 2001. At her request private interment will be in the family lot at Oak Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be donated to any fund promoting child literacy. Foley Funeral Service, Bangor is conducting the arrangements for the family.
