GUILFORD – Dana O. “Jack” Dow, 69, died Feb. 11, 2008, at Mayo Regional Hospital, Dover-Foxcroft, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. He was born Jan. 9, 1939, in Milo, son of Dana and Laura (Kelley) Dow. He served in the U.S. Navy for three years and was stationed aboard the submarine tender, USS Orion. He worked in construction for most of his life principally in Massachusetts. He learned the craft of making manholes in Texas and used that knowledge for many years in his contracts with the public utilities. Jack was also known as captain, after making many treasure chests for the grandchildren, nieces and nephews. For the past several years he made his home with his nephew, David Foster; and his sister and her husband, Carolyn and Earling Hersey, who survive him. He is also survived by his stepmother, Beverly Dow of Dover-Foxcroft; sisters and brothers, Patricia Stewart of Sangerville, Virginia and her husband, Tom Jehnings, of Connecticut, Gary and his wife, Delilah Dow, of Virginia, Diana Dow and her companion, Jeff Carver, of Sangerville, Janet and Robert Stutzman of Dover-Foxcroft, Guy and his wife, Heidi Dow, of Guilford, Brenda and her husband, Jason Gourley, of Guilford; a special aunt and uncle, Mary and Bodie Henderson of Milo; many nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Thunder. He was predeceased by his parents; a brother, Peter Dow; and a nephew, Curt Foster. At his request there will be no public services at this time.
