PERRY – Dana W. Fickett, 58, died March 2, 2006, at Down East Community Hospital, surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with kidney cancer. He was born March 2, 1948, the son of Jessie (Ackley) and Clayton Fickett. He began working the soda fountain at Havey & Wilson pharmacy in 1964, as a sophomore in high school. He went on to pursue an education in Pharmacology, graduating Class valedictorian from Massachusetts College of Pharmacy in 1971. He returned to Havey & Wilson purchasing the business in 1975, which he continued to operate, as the sole dedicated pharmacist for 30 years until 2005. His work left a positive imprint on the community. He was a member of Rho Chi Honor Society and the Maine Pharmacy Association. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. His kind, quiet, gentle personality, was reflected in his love of model building, sailing, fishing and spending time with his family at camp on Boydens Lake. He is survived by his mother, his loving wife of 33 years, Sharon (Ritchie) Fickett; daughter, Denise Harris and husband, Shawn, of Perry; daughter, Chrissy Perry and husband, Dennis, of Whitneyville; grandchildren, Jodie and Alex of Perry; sister, Sharon Cannon and husband, Steve, of Eastport. He will be sadly missed by in-laws, Graydon and Margaret Ritchie; brother-in-law, Buddy and Cindy Ritchie; sister-in-law and caretaker, Brenda Blanchard and companion, Lindon Rockwell, all of Perry. He will also be missed by aunt and uncle, Marvis and Marcia Fickett of Sudbury, Mass.; nieces and nephews, Mindy Brown, Tony and Eric Ritchie, Angie and Steve Cannon; and close family friend, Cathie Gallagher; and many close friends, past customers and employees. He was predeceased by his father, Clayton in 2001. The family wishes to thank Dr. Sammis and the entire staff at Down East Community Hospital for the excellent care and compassion. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Friday, at Flagg Funeral Home, High St., Eastport. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, at Perry Congregational Church. Burial will be private.
