WESTBROOK – Daniel R. Kelly, 12, of Westbrook, died early Monday, Jan. 12, 2004, at Maine Medical Center, following a two-year battle with cancer. He was born June 1, 1991, in Portland. He had just started the sixth grade at Wescott Junior High School in Westbrook. Daniels faith in Jesus Christ was personal and vibrant. His spiritual maturity and trust in God blessed many. Daniel’s long term illness energized many to pray fervently. Daniel’s life and faith will continue to encourage his family and many friends. He enjoyed throwing the javelin at summer track, swimming on the Seals swim team, playing soccer and baseball and delivering the Press Herald to his customers in Westbrook. Daniel attended the First Baptist Church of Portland and every summer looked forward to and loved attending church camp. He liked to go fishing and camping in the Allagash. He took pleasure in playing video and computer games and eating at McDonald’s and at Domino’s Pizza. Surviving are his parents, Dana and Leslie Kelly of Westbrook; siblings, Afton and husband, Nicholas Morton, Stuart, Kaila, Deanna and Sammy, all of Westbrook; grandparents, Guy and Arlene Melcher of Westbrook and Roger and Laurina Kelly of Allagash; also surviving are his birth parents, Rose and Fred. Visiting hours will be 1-3 and 7-9 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church, 360 Canco Rd., Portland. Funeral services will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the church, with the Rev. Art Gay officiating. Arrangements are by the Blais & Hay Funeral Home, 35 Church St., Westbrook.
