BUCKSPORT – Daphene E. (DeLaite) Chambers, 77, died Jan. 23, 2005, at a Brewer nursing facility. She was born June 25, 1927, in Burlington, Maine, the daughter of Lewis and Josephine (Hanscom) DeLaite. Daphene was formerly employed by the University of Connecticut as a cook, worked as a waitress, enjoyed knitting mittens, doing crossword puzzles, feeding the birds, gardening, fishing, and playing cribbage. She will be missed by many. Daphene is survived by five children, Lewis Soper and his wife, Linda, of Orland, Lawrence Soper and his wife, Sheila, of Bucksport, Alice Stanley and her husband, Don, of Florida, Scott Chambers and his wife, Kathy, of Winterport, Marshall Chambers of Bucksport; a son-in-law, Michael Garreans of Florida; three sisters, Maude Bolduc of Bucksport, Cleo Cottrell and her husband, Bob, of Verona Island, Dorothy York and husband, Howard, of Penobscot; 11 grandchildren, many great-grandchildren; many friends including special friend, George Wasson of Bucksport; and Annette, her roommate at Brewer Rehab and Living Center. In addition to her parents, Daphene was predeceased by a daughter, Marguerite “Peg” Garreans; three sisters, Genieve Fritch, Louise Leonard, Christine Atwood; brother-in-law, Ed Bolduc. Daphene’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all of the staff and caregivers at Brewer Rehab and Living Center and CancerCare of Maine for the excellent and compassionate care that Dephene received. Visitation for family and friends will be 6-8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, at the Mitchell-Tweedie Funeral Home, 28 Elm St., Bucksport, where a funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, with Pastor Peter Remick officiating. Spring interment will be in Riverview Cemetery, Bucksport. Donations in Daphene’s memory may be made to the Residents Fund at Brewer Rehab and Living Center, 74 Parkway South, Brewer, ME 04412.
