NEW SWEDEN – An angel reached down Feb. 2, 2005 and relieved Darrell Adler, of his suffering after a long illness. Affectionately known to many as Uncle Doe Doe, he was born Sept. 15, 1927, to Oscar and Lucie (Lane) Adler. He spent his life working on the family farm and in local potato houses. He loved talking to people and approached them with a warm cheerful smile. It did not matter to him if they were wealthy, middle class or poor, what he saw in each person was an opportunity for conversation and perhaps a friend. He was especially fond of children and developed deep caring relationships with all his nieces and nephews. He loved driving his car and thoroughly enjoyed seeing wildlife on his morning jaunts. Gardening, helping on the farm, and other outdoor activities brought great pleasure in his life. He was baptized and publicly affirmed his Christian faith at Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church in New Sweden. He was in the U.S. Army during 1952-1953 and was a member of the Plourde-Perkins American Legion Post 136 in Stockholm. He was predeceased by three brothers, Hans, Melvin, Herbert and infant sister, Ethel. He leaves a loving family of many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, sisters-in-law, an aunt and many cousins. Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 6, 2005, at Mockler Funeral Home, Caribou, with calling hours from 12:30 p.m. until time of service. Memorials may be sent to the Gustaf Adolph Lutheran Church Memorial Fund, care of S. Erickson, P.O. Box 23, New Sweden, ME 04762.
