HOULTON – Darrol G. Kelley Jr., 54, of Houlton died Nov.8, 2003, at a local health care facility surrounded by his family. He was born May 14, 1949, in Presque Isle, the son of Darrol G. Kelley Sr. and Phyllis (Cronkite) Sprague. Darrol attended schools in Presque Isle and attended the University of Maine, Augusta. Darrol was co-owner of Vegetation Management and was a master arborist and was a masters level herbicides applicator. Darrol was a past member of the Masonic Lodge. He loved fly-fishing and the outdoors, spending time in his canoe on the Miramchi. He was a member of the Veazie Salmon Club and worked hard to reintroduce salmon to the Maine rivers and lakes, volunteering his time to the Atlantic Salmon Federation by bringing salmon eggs to schools to be raised and then released. Darrol was one of those special people that never met a stranger. In addition to his mother of Presque Isle he is survived by his wife of 21 years, Barbara (Reed) Kelley of Houlton; five children, Chad and his wife, Angelia Kelley, of Westfield, Adam and his wife, Paula Kelley, of Presque Isle, Nason, Ryan and Jarvis Kelley, all of Presque Isle; five grandchildren; one sister, Linda and her husband, Brett Armstrong, of Bangor; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Monday at the Bowers Funeral Home, 10 Water St., Houlton where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Monday with the Rev. David Tuttle officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers those who wish may donate to the New Limerick Freewill Baptist Church, care of the funeral home.
