ALBERTA, Va. – David D. Gifford, sergeant major retired, U.S. Army, died April 5, 2007, at Prince William Hospital, Manassas, Va. Sgt. Maj. Gifford retired with distinguished honors from the U.S. Army after traveling around the world. After his military retirement, he began his second career with the Virginia Employment Commission, South Hill, Va. Sgt. Maj. Gifford was a loving father, brother, grandfather and friend to those who knew him. His wife of 30 years, Alene V. Gifford died in 2003. Survivors include his daughters, Donna Jean Bogart of Vienna, Va., and Pamela Marie Morris of Manassas, Va.; a son, David Malcom Gifford of Massachusetts; stepsons, Darhyl and Kenneth Wise; a brother, James Steeves of Ohio; sisters, Charlene York of Connecticut and Sally McKenney of Arizona, and 10 grandchildren. The family will receive friends 7-8:30 p.m. Monday at Williams Funeral Home of Lawrenceville, Va., where funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday. Interment will be held after with full military honors at Crestview Memorial Park, La Crosse, Va. Williams Funeral Home of Lawrenceville is in charge of arrangements.
