KENNEBUNK – David Jay Goldsmith, 53, of Kennebunk, passed away Thursday, July 15, 2004, surrounded by his family, following a courageous battle with cancer. David was born June 29, 1951, in Bangor, son of Milton and Irma Goldsmith of Boca Raton, Fla. He attended Old Town High School and graduated from The University of Maine in Orono. He began working with his father in the family business, Goldsmith Sporting Goods in 1973, and in 1986 became the owner. David’s lifelong passion was sports and he participated in every aspect of it from his work in the sporting goods business to being an avid basketball and baseball player. He loved working with kids, particularly his two sons, and later coached several leagues in Kennebunk and Kennebunkport; including the basketball travel team, little league baseball and AAU basketball. He most recently participated in the “Mary’s Walk for Cancer.” In addition to his parents, David will be sadly missed by his wife of 17 years, Donna (Lindgren) Goldsmith; and his sons, Andrew and Scotty Goldsmith; sisters, Diana and husband, Jim Brickel, of Rockland, Jodi and husband, Terry Veysey, of Portland; brother, Dr. Dana and wife, Carol Goldsmith, of Rockland; brother-in-law, Bjorn and wife, Beverly Lindgren, of Houston, Texas; and mother-in-law, Inga-Lisa Lindgren of Kennebunk. David was predeceased by infant daughter, Annie; grandparents, Arthur and Eva Goldsmith, and Samuel and Mildred Miller. Visitation will take place 3-6 p.m. Sunday, July 18, 2004, at Bibber Memorial Chapel, 67 Summer St., Kennebunk. An 11 a.m. funeral service will be held Monday, July 19, 2004 at Holy Cross-Lutheran Church Church, Storer Street, Kennebunk. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be sent to Sea Road School, 1 Storer St., Kennebunk, ME.
