NORTHEAST HARBOR David Stanley Hyde, 71, passed away unexpectedly Friday, Aug. 11, 2006, at Mount Desert Island Hospital. He was born May 6, 1935, in Bar Harbor, the son of Stanley and Shirley (Dodge) Greene Hyde. David was the fifth generation of Dodges to make his home in Seal Harbor. After attending Mount Desert schools, he worked in a variety of trades before achieving his dream of making a living from the sea. He adored his grandfather, Albert Dodge, who taught him lobster fishing as a young man. Besides being on the ocean, David’s greatest joys were his three grandsons. David had a great sense of humor and an enthusiasm for life. He enjoyed storytelling and loved to go togue fishing at Jordan Pond. He was loved by friends and family for his generosity and his quickness to help anyone in need. David was know by many and loved by all. Everyone will miss the devilish twinkle in his eyes. He is survived by his beloved wife, Catherine “Cassie” Hyde; one son, Kenneth Hyde and wife, Mary; one daughter, Christy Suvlu and her husband, Robert; two sisters, Vicki Walsh and husband, Ed, and Julie Bender and husband, David; David’s ex-wife and friend, Helen Hyde; three grandsons, Dylan, Lee Suvlu and Colby Hyde; many nieces, nephews and special friends.
