BELFAST – David W. Bachelder, 59, passed away June 25, 2008, surrounded by his family, at his residence. He was born Nov. 12, 1948, in Belfast, son of Raymond and Kathleen (Cross) Bachelder. David graduated from Mount View High School in 1966 and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving from 1968 to 1971. He graduated from University of Maine, Orono, in 1980 with a Bachelor of Science degree in business. He was a licensed insurance agent and C.I.C. for W. C. Ladd from 1983 to 1990, until founding Unity Insurance Agency, September of 1990. David was a longtime member of Belfast Lions Club and was King Lion in 1986. He was also a past member on the board of directors of Waldo County General Hospital. He was a well-known pianist and singer in the Belfast and surrounding areas, playing with the Harbormen, as well as with his father, Raymond – as they were the music of choice during that era. David will be remembered as a loving father, devoted friend and for his charismatic personality throughout the community. He was predeceased by his parents. David is survived by his children, Liza Bachelder of Austin, Texas, Kevin Bachelder of Portland and Lindsey Bachelder of Belfast and Los Angeles; their mother, Janet Bachelder of Owls Head; granddaughter, Isabelle Bachelder of Portland; his siblings and their families, Julie and Chuck Burwell of Dixmont, Janet Weaver and Charles Pray of Waldo, Dana Bachelder of Belfast and Jill and Cory Morse of Belfast; several aunts; and the Bunnell family. Family and friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Saturday, June 28, at Crabiel-Riposta Funeral Home, 182 Waldo Ave., Belfast. Services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, June 29, at First Church, Belfast, with the Rev. David Abbott officiating.
