ELLSWORTH – Deale B. Salisbury, 73, died June 25, 2007, at his residence. He was born Sept. 16, 1933, in Ells-worth, the son of Ernest M. and Elinor (Bradbury) Salisbury. Deale was a graduate of Ellsworth High School, Bangor, Theological Seminary and the University of Maine. He taught for 30 years, including stints at Hartland Academy, George Stevens Academy, Blue Hill, Calais grade school, Union Street Junior High, Bangor, and Bangor High School. He was a former legislator, former member of the Ellsworth School Board and Ellsworth City Council. He was the founding president of the Ellsworth Historical Society, a former director of the Hancock County Emergency Management Agency and past chairman of the board of the Eastern Maine Development Corporation. Deale had been involved with the Maine League of Historical Societies and Museums, the Black House and Ellsworth Historic Preservation Commission. He was currently on the boards of the Jonathan Fisher Memorial, Blue Hill and Maine Historic Records Advisory Board. He was the published author of “Ellsworth Crossroads of Downeast Maine.” Deale is survived by a son, Robert Lowther and wife, Shelley, of Halifax, Nova Scotia; beloved grandson, Ben Ryan Deale Lowther, “best little Deale in Canada;” sister, Leah Allen and husband, Forrest, of Ellsworth; one niece, several nephews and one cousin. He was predeceased by his parents; brother, Henry; and two sisters, Marion Fogle and Earlene McGreevy. Calling hours will be held 5-6:30 p.m. Sunday, July 1, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth. A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 2, at First Congregational Church of Ells-worth, 2 Church St., Ellsworth. Interment will be at Woodbine Cemetery.
