SULLIVAN – Delia Elaine Barnes, 75, passed away June 16, 2004, surrounded by her four loving children, at the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital. She was born June 20, 1928, in Sullivan, the daughter of Fred B. and Eva (Merchant) Johnson. Delia had a love for nursing and worked for many years as an LPN at the Maine Coast Memorial Hospital and Maplecrest Nursing Home. She was a member of the American Legion Woman’s Auxiliary. She is survived by a son, Andrew B. Atkins Jr. of St. Augustine, Fla.; daughters, Patricia E. Sanborn and husband, Raymond, of Sullivan, Mary Ann Smallidge and husband, Arthur C., of Trenton, Gail M. McVay and husband, Douglas, of Franklin; grandchildren, Teresa Knaub, Tabatha Coombs, Holly Coombs, Ed Muise, Amanda Sanborn, Raymie Sanborn, Misty Atkins, Windy Calhoun, Ronald Hudson Jr., Christopher Hudson, Heath Hudson, Savanna Hudson, Christopher McVay, Elisha McVay, Benjamin McVay; 22 great-grandchildren; sisters, Amelia Joy of Gouldsboro, Irma Loundes of Sullivan, Nana Young of Corea, Ruth Mack of Pennsylvania; brothers, Harold Johnson of Bangor, and Theodore Johnson of Winter Harbor. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew B. Atkins Sr.; brother, Leonard B. Johnson; sisters, Bertha Delaney, Beatrice Slater; great-grandson, Corey Coombs; and recently a very special niece, Christine Rivers. Calling hours will be held 6:30-8 p.m. Sunday, June 20, 2004, at the Jordan Funeral Home, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth, where funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 21, 2004. Interment will be at Eastside Cemetery, Hancock.
