ELLSWORTH and BETHESDA, Md. – Delma Irene Day, 86, died Aug. 22, 2006, surrounded by her loving family at Westgate Manor health care facility, Bangor. She was born Nov. 1, 1919, in Sparta, Tenn., the daughter of James and Lydia McCormick. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and taught the family how to live, love, and die with dignity and grace. Anyone who came to her home was welcomed unconditionally and was welcomed as long as they needed. She saw the face of God in everyone she met. Delma, wife of the late James Vincent Day, Federal Maritime Commissioner is survived by daughter, Teresa Day Lynch and husband, John Patrick, of Ellsworth and their three children, John Patrick Jr. and wife, Ann and son, John P. III, Jennifer Lynch Brittingham and husband, Ernest and their children, Michael P. and Katherine D. Brittingham and Christopher Michael Lynch, daughter, Mary Day Baird and husband, William J. III, of Baltimore, Md. and their children, William James IV, Emma Grace, and Thomas McCormack Baird; son, Daniel Owen Day, who predeceased her, and wife, Rosemary Day Beachum, of Marietta, Ga. and their children, Timothy James and Katherine Lawrence Day; son, James Vincent Day Jr. and wife, Peggy Ann, of Springfield, Va. and their children, Megan Mary, James V. III, and Taylor Marjorie Day; son, Timothy Thomas Day and his wife, Grace, of Bethesda, Md. and his children, Kelly Michelle and Ryan James Day; son, Thomas David Day of Baltimore, Md. and his children, Kaitlin Rachel and Kelsey Ryan Day; brothers, Willie Creed McCormick and wife, Earlene, Jewell Dean McCormick and wife, Marlene, 21 nieces and nephews and many great-nieces and great-nephews. Delma was predeceased by brothers, Leon, Haskel and Edward McCormick; sisters, Thelma Armishaw and Cordia Bledsoe and their husbands, Robert Armishaw and Robert Bledsoe respectively; brothers-in-law, Joseph P., Walter P. and Vincent J. Day; sisters-in-law, Anna M. Day, Catherine Cummins, Ellen E. Day, Theresa M. Day and Emma D. Angley. Delma received exceptional care from the staff at Westgate Manor and her family thanks them all. Friends are invited to call 9-9:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 25, with a service at 9:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 231 Main St., Ellsworth. Interment will be 1 p.m. Friday, Aug. 25, at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery, Augusta.
