ISLESFORD and HAMPDEN -Phyllis L. Colson, 90, died Aug. 22, 2006, with family by her side at a Hampden healthcare facility. She was born March 30, 1916, in Bangor, the daughter of Oscar and Jennie Jarvis. Phyllis attended local schools on Islesford. She received her general equivalency diploma degree after the death of her husband and went on to nursing school in Waterville to receive her licensed practical nurse certification. She worked for the Mount Desert Island Hospital and retired from the Maine Veterans’ Hospital in Togus. On her retirement, she returned to her beloved Islesford, where she spent many happy days with her wonderful island friends who helped her very much. She is survived by nieces and nephews; Herbert Colson and his wife, Verna, of Hampden and their children, Charles, Stephen, Gary, Gina and Greg, James Jarvis and his wife, Pauline, of Bath and their children, Wayne, Karen and Lisa, Carol Moores and her husband, James, of Franklin and their children, Kristien and James Jr. She was predeceased by her husband, Sanford W. Colson; and a brother, Kenneth Jarvis. As per her request there will be no visiting hours. Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, at Corey Cemetery, Lubec. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in Phyllis’s memory to the Islesford Congregational Church of Islesford or the Islesford Fire Department of Islesford, ME 04646.
