BREWER – Delores J. Rush, 76, died unexpectedly May 23, 2008, surrounded by her loving family at a Bangor hospital. She was born Sept. 20, 1931, in South Brewer, the daughter of the late Murray and Georgie (Hayward) Ireland. She was employed at Eastern Maine Medical Center Dietary Department, for more than 10 years. She was also a job coach at Northeast Occupational Exchange for 10 years before retiring. She was a devoted member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxiliary, Brewer and was recently given the highest honorary honor of Mother of the Year for the State of Maine Auxiliary on May 18, 2008. She was a loving and devoted grandmother and great-grandmother to many, and was known as Mammie to all who knew her. She is survived by five children, Judy Buzzell and her husband, Garry, of Brewer, George Whitcomb and his wife, Marie, of Orrington, Gary Whitcomb and his wife, Aggie, of Milford, Shirley Cameron and her husband, James, of Holden and Michael Whitcomb, address unknown; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; one sister, Bernice Pittenger of Brewer; three brothers, Leroy Ireland of Bangor, Wayne Ireland of Orrington and Donald Ireland of Florida; a special friend/sister-in-law, Penny Murphy of Brewer; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her son, David Whitcomb; first husband, Myron Whitcomb; two granddaughters, Jody and Tammy Sue Whitcomb; and her husband, Norman Rush. Family and friends may visit 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, May 27, at Kiley & Foley Funeral Service, 69 State St., Brewer, where a memorial service will be conducted 7 p.m. by the officers of the Fraternal Order of Eagles. A graveside service will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Mount Hope Cemetery, Bangor, with the Rev. Roger Davis, pastor of Calvary Baptist Church, Brewer, presiding. Those attending are invited to meet 12:45 p.m. at the cemetery office, State Street entrance. A time of continued fellowship will be held immediately after the service Saturday at Brewer Eagles Club.
