CLIFTON and WINTERPORT Dennis Wesley Mahoney, 66, of 772 Airline Road, Clifton, died at home of cancer on June 26, 2004. He was born Aug. 8, 1937, in Wesley, the son of the late John and Mildred (Hawkins) Mahoney. After graduating from Brewer High School and the University of Southern Maine, he taught industrial arts at Schenck High School, East Millinocket. Upon moving to Winterport in 1965, he was employed as a fire insurance inspector for the Insurance Services Office out of Boston. In 1980, he purchased the Mitchell-Rooney Insurance Agency in Winterport and renamed it the D.W. Mahoney Agency. He retired in 1995 due to an eye disease, retinitis pigmentosa, which caused him limited sight. During his retirement, he enjoyed renovating the old Parks house in Clifton. Surviving are his wife, Sibyl (Stanley) Mahoney of Clifton; son, Stanley, his wife, Adrienne, and their three boys, Dennis, Samuel and Liam of Massapequa Park, N.Y.; son, John, his wife, Sara Yasner, and their son, Seamus; other family members include a sister, Patricia Small and her husband, Albert, of Kittery; brother-in-law, Durmont, his wife, Arsenia, of Shererville, Ind.; mother-in-law, Helen Stanley of Brewer; several close nephews, nieces and cousins. Dennis was predeceased by his daughter, Pamela Ann; and his sister, Marjorie Millett of Somersville, N.H. A graveside service for friends and family will be held 2 p.m. Sunday, July 11, 2004, at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Route 9, Clifton, with Pastor William Stone, officiating. Memorial donations in Dennis’ memory may be made to the Pamela Ann Mahoney Scholarship Fund, care of Hampden Academy, 24 Main Road, Hampden, ME 04444.
