COLUMBIA, Mo. and PREQUE ISLE – Dianne (Nichols) Germann, 67, joined her savior Sunday, March 13, in the presence of her husband, Paul. She was born May 26, 1937, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Kenneth and Doris Nichols. She graduated from Presque Isle High School in 1955, and went on to get her nursing degree. A registered nurse, she worked in Presque Isle, Boston and Chicago. In 1965, Dianne joined the Peace Corps and taught nursing in Afghanistan. Upon returning to the United States, she continued to teach nursing in Presque Isle and Madawaska. While in the Peace Corps, Dianne met Paul Germann of St. Paul, Minn., and discovered he was the love of her life. They married Sept. 27, 1968, and had one son, Kenneth, whom they raised together in Madawaska. A 15-year resident of Columbia, Mo., Diane made lasting contributions to the local community. An active member of the MS Institute, she provided practical advice, heartfelt care, and compassionate support to her fellow residents with MS. Mrs. Germann was a member of the Daughters of the Revolution. In addition to her husband and son, she is survived by two granddaughters, Liberty and Nadia Germann; seven brothers and sisters, Paul Nichols and his wife, Priscilla, Richard Nichols and his wife, Mary Ruth, Jerry Nichols and his wife, Judy, Linda Dahlgren and her husband, Ray, Jo Ann Hubbard and her husband, Robert, Keary Nichols, and Stephen Nichols and his wife, Nancy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, April 2, 2005, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church with the Rev. Alfred Irving celebrant. Relatives and friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church. Spring interment will be in Fairmount Cemetery.
