LIMESTONE – Donald B. Griffeth, 82, died June 20, 2004, at a Caribou health-care facility, after a long illness. He was born Sept. 21, 1921, in Limestone, the son of Belford and Idella (Gallagher) Griffeth. Donald was a Limestone High School graduate, Class of 1939, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving with the Headquarters Company, 1st Battalion 304th Infantry Regiment in the European Theater. Returning from the war, he farmed in Limestone for 40 years, retiring in 1985. He was a member of the Obar-Phair Post American Legion No. 127 of Limestone. He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gretchen (Adams) Griffeth of Limestone; four sons, Galen Griffeth and wife, Margy, of Limestone, David Griffeth and wife, Roxanne, of Colorado Springs, Colo., Fred Griffeth and wife, Jane, of Limestone, Gary Griffeth of Topsham; four daughters, Carlie Marquis and husband, Tim, of Limestone, Tanya Dowiat and husband, John, of Carpentersville, III., Judy Hermann and husband, Dave, of Marysville, Ohio, and Patricia Perry and husband, Tyler, of Houlton; three sisters, Julia Ward and Virginia Adams of Limestone, and Leola LaPointe of Vernon, Conn.; 19 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, Franklin Griffeth and Granville Griffeth; and by on sister, Martina Libby. Memorial services will be held at the Limestone United Methodist Church at a alter and will be announced by the Lancaster Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou.
