HERMON and ZEPHYRHILLS, Fla. – Donald Calvin Demmons, 71, husband of Roberta M. (Lawrence) Demmons died Aug. 5, 2004, at a Bangor hospital. He was born Aug. 6, 1932, in Sangerville, the son of Walter E. and Doris O. (Dulac) Demmons. Don served in the U.S. Army, enlisting in 1949. He later enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served honorably in Korea in 1952 and 1953, receiving a Purple Heart. He also enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was discharged in 1969. Don was a machinist at the General Electric plant in Bangor, prior to retirement. He and Roberta enjoyed many winters at their home in Zephyrhills, Fla. Don was a life-member of the DAV and the VFW. He was also a Mason and a member of Lynde Lodge, No. 174 of Hermon. He loved fishing, hunting and golf, and was a member of the Southport Springs golf course in Zephyrhills, Fla. He took great pride in maintaining the grounds around his homes in Florida and Maine. He was a man extremely devoted to his family. He is survived by his beloved wife of 50 years, Roberta; one son, David W. Demmons and wife, Alice, of Hermon; one granddaughter, Amy and husband, Joe Brasslett, of Hermon; one grandson, Mike Sibley and wife, Martha, of Mountain View, Idaho. Don was a proud “Papa” to a special great-grandson, Alex Beylerian of Hermon. Also surviving are five sisters, Marie Robinson and husband, Ken, of Glenburn, Marguerite Kelley and husband, David, of Hermon, Betty Hurlburt and husband, Roger, of Stevens City, Va., Mary Muldune and friend, Mike, of Carmel, Barbara Potter and husband, Ed, of Bangor; three brothers, Walter T. Demmons and wife, Norma, of Carmel, Louis M. Demmons and wife, Lucille, of Carmel, Dennis E. Demmons and wife, Linda, of Hermon; several aunts, nieces, nephews and cousins. A celebration of Donnie’s life will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Carmel Union Congregational Church with Pastor Burt Williams officiating. A reception and continued time of fellowship will follow the service at Donnie and Roberta’s home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Carmel Union Church, Carmel, ME 04419.
