STONINGTON – Donald E. McGuffie, 83, died Monday, January 10, 2005, at a Blue Hill hospital. He was born Aug. 6, 1921, in Stonington the son of Robert M. and Florence E. (Knowlton) McGuffie. Donald was educated in Stonington schools and attended welding school at Bath Iron Works, where he worked for about four years. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Army Corps of Engineers, where he was a Structural Steel worker and an Expert Rifleman. After the war, he returned to Stonington and worked as a Master Welder at the Stonington shipyard, and was also a lobsterman, a lifelong passion he actively pursued until this past fall. Donald’s interests were hunting, fishing, and gardening. He was a member of Rodney Stinson Post No. 102, American Legion, in Stonington. Donald is survived by his wife of 58 years, Norma A. (Eaton) McGuffie of Stonington; two daughters, Donna Jackson and her husband, Milford, of Ellsworth, and Jean Read and her husband, William Jr., of Bangor; three granddaughters, Ana Gutierrez of Stonington, Jennifer Johnson and her husband, Greg, of Goldsboro, N.C., and Mollie Randall and her husband, Todd, of Cherryfield; a special grandson, Richard Donald Goodwin of Stonington; three great-grandchildren, Samantha Eaton, Allison Hudson, and Brianna Smith; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was predeceased by a sister, Evangeline P. Knowlton, and her husband, Percival. Friends are invited to visit with the family 2-4 p.m. Wednesday, at the Bragdon-Kelley-Campbell Funeral Home, Main St., Stonington where funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, with Elder A.
