WINTERPORT – Donald Harry Smith, 75, died Nov. 18, 2007, at a Bangor health care center. He was born Oct. 29, 1932, in Winterport, son of Donald Harry and Margaret (White) Smith. Don was a graduate of Winterport High School, attended Husson College and was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War. He had been employed by American Gear and retired from the Motor Pool, city of Bangor. Don was an antique car enthusiast and the proud owner of two antique cars. Surviving are his wife, June (Hackett) Smith of Winterport; his beloved dog, Mollie; two sisters-in-law, Eileen H. Foley of Lakeland, Fla., and Helen H. Weatherbee of Bangor; a very special niece, Peggy McPike of Bangor; brother-in-law, William D. Hackett of Southington, Conn.; several great-nieces and great-nephews. Don was predeceased by his father, Donald Harry Smith; and his mother, Margaret (White) Smith Nelson. He was also predeceased by two sisters-in-law, Peggy Hackett and Mary (Hackett) Getchell; and one brother-in-law, James R. Hackett. Relatives and friends are welcome to call 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 21, at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 11 a.m. Friday, Nov. 23, at St. Matthews Catholic Church, Western Avenue, Hampden, with the Rev. Robert C. Vaillancourt, pastor, celebrant.
