YULEE, Fla. – Donald H. Rogers, 75, of Trinity Circle, husband of Shirley Ann Rogers since 1951, passed away Friday, Jan. 6, 2006, at Baptist Medical Center-Nassau. A native of Rockport, he was the son of the late Harris E. and Bessie Jewett Rogers and had resided in Nassau County, Fla. since 1994. Mr. Rogers received his education at Maine Central Institute and Colby College in Waterville. He served his country in the U.S. Army for three and a half years as a sergeant in the First Army and also for six years in the National Guard. Mr. Rogers was employed as a machine operator for Pioneer Parachute in Manchester, Conn., a machinist with Pratt & Whitney Aircraft in East Hartford, Conn., at Nichols Tire Company in Manchester, Conn., was owner/operator of Detroit Tire Company in Detroit, was the manager of Stratham Tire Company in Bangor, worked for Ingersoll-Rand/Torrington Company in Morris, Conn. and also for the Winn-Dixie location in Yulee, Fla. He was a master mason in the Meridan Splendor Lodge No. 49 in Newport, was a 32 degree Mason in the Scottish Rite Consistories of both Portland and Bangor and was a Shriner in the Pyramid Temple, New Milford, Conn. Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by his twin brother, Arthur David Rogers; and another brother, Erwin Rogers. Survivors include, his wife of 55 years, Shirley Ann Rogers; a daughter, Linda Rogers Girgasky of Jacksonville, Fla.; a son, Brian Rogers of Yulee, Fla.; a sister, Nathalie W. Oliver of Jacksonville, Fla.; five grandchildren, Michael, Chris, Jessica, Brian Jr. and Justin; many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews; and by his loving poodle, Gina Lolabridgida Rogers. A memorial service is scheduled 11 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 11, at the Yulee United Methodist Church, where Mr. Rogers was a member, with the Rev. Brett Templeton, pastor and the Rev. Tom Keisler, pastor of the Yulee Baptist Church, officiating. Interment will be in the Village Cemetery in Pittsfield, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Mr. Rogers’ church, Yulee United Methodist Church, State Road 200 (A1A), Yulee, FL 32097, in his memory. Arrangements by Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors.
