SOUTH THOMASTON – Donald Hayward Lough Sr. went home to be with the Lord he loved and served on Dec. 14, 2003. Don loved life with a God-given exuberance. Above all, he loved his Lord and Savior and spent his life serving Him. He longed for everyone he knew to come to know the Lord as their personal Savior. He had the joy of being the senior pastor of the West Rockport Baptist Church in Maine. His calling there as senior pastor was the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. He was passionate about his flock there and loved them dearly. Prior to God’s assignment in Maine, Don had 22 years of fruitful ministry with Word of Life in Schroon Lake, N.Y., where he was the adult Bible Conference Director. He also served as Associate Pastor at Tulsa Bible Church for five years, serving alongside his beloved friend, John Barnett. Don was born June 19, 1940, in Newark, N.J., to Ernest Loizeaux and Majorie Smith Lough. He graduated from Wheaton College in Wheaton, Ill., in 1962 with a degree in Bible and Business Administration. He married Carol Rodgers on June 22, 1963. He was President of Lough Brothers Inc., in South Orange, N.J., for 15 years. He was actively involved at Brookdale Baptist Church until in 1976, when the Lord changed his career path to full-time ministry. Don will be remembered for his unique gifts from the Lord as a master trumpeter, a wonderful baritone soloist, and being known as an incredible song leader. He was cherished and loved by his family and will be missed. The family knows he is with the Lord he loved and they share the wonderful hope that this is a temporary separation. Further, Don’s family prays that all who read this will personally come to the Lord Jesus Christ, in believing faith, and will have the joy of meeting our husband and dad, Don Lough, Sr., in heaven. Even so come quickly, Lord Jesus. Passionate about his family, Don is survived by his loving wife, Carol, whom he treasured for 40 wonderful years. Not only was she the love of his life, but also his faithful partner in ministry. Don treasured his children and grandchildren and was affectionately known as Dad and Poppy. Don Jr. and his wife, Darla, serve the Lord in Schroon Lake, N.Y., with the International Ministries of Word of Life. They have four children, Alyssa, Jonathan, Justin and Ashlyn; Jodi L. and her husband, Scott Ries, of Indianapolis, Ind., serve the Lord through medicine and local church ministries. Their three children are Grace, Lauren and Jason; Jonathan and his wife, Jennifer Lough, serve the Lord at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. Their three children are, Andrew, Matthew, and Emily Carol. He had “no greater joy than this, to hear of my children walking in truth.” 3 John 1:4. He also is survived by his mother, Marjorie Lough Kihlgren of Fort Myers, Fla.; two sisters, Barbara Lough Frye and her husband, David, of Florham Park, N.J., Marjorie ‘Peg’ Lough Greene and her husband, Lt. Col. Channing Greene, of Rutland, Vt. He loved his mother, sisters, and brothers-in-law dearly. He is also survived by many members of his beloved wife’s family. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 in the afternoon and 7-9 in the evening Friday, Dec. 19, 2003, at Burpee, Carpenter & Hutchins Funeral Home, 110 Limerock St., Rockland. Don’s celebration service will be held 2 p.m., Saturday, at West Rockport Baptist Church, Park Street, West Rockport. Dr. John Barnett will officiate. A reception will follow at the Family Life Center, First Baptist Church, 215 Limerock St., Rockland.
