BANGOR – Gerard Faucher, 80, of Bangor, died Tuesday, Dec. 9, while wintering in Orange Beach, Ala. Born Dec. 27, 1922, in Lewiston, the son of Rolande H. and Rosa (Montminy) Faucher. He was educated in the Lewiston parochial schools and graduated from the College du Sacre Coeur in Victoriaville, Quebec. After serving in the Army Air Corps Cadets during World War II, he graduated from the University of Maine at Orono in 1950 with a degree in Engineering Physics. Mr. Faucher was employed by the Air Force Cambridge Research Labs at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Mass., until his retirement in 1982. His field of research was the upper atmosphere. Upon retirement, he built a log home in Dedham. An avid runner, he competed in the Boston Marathon 15 times. He also enjoyed golf and swimming. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Frances (Brochu) Faucher; and his six children, David G. of Leominster, Mass., John P. of Haverhill, Mass., Donna M. Boston of Needham, Mass., Thomas J. of Ellicott City, Md., Monique E. of Groton, Mass., and Robert J. of Belmont, Mass; eight grandchildren; a sister, Rolande Morin, of Rochester, N.H.; and his father-in-law, Gerard Brochu of Brewer. He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Maurice, of Auburn. A mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 9 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20, in the chapel of St. John’s Church, 207 York St., Bangor by the Rev. Richard McLaughlin. All friends and family are invited to a reception in the parish hall immediately following. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John’s Vision 2000, 207 York St., Bangor, ME 04401, or to a charity of your choice. A private burial will take place in the spring.
