WINTHROP – Donald James Palleschi, 74, passed away Friday June 8, 2007, in the company of family at his home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born July 22 1932, in Rumford. Don was raised in his grandparent’s loving home and was a 1951 graduate of Stephens High School. He was also the quarterback of his high school football team. He served his country with the U.S. Air Force as an airplane maintenance technician in the Korean War. After returning stateside, he was stationed in Kansas, where he met the love of his life and mother of his children, Ramona. Later he attended Gates Business College and majored in accounting. He was the business manager at Augusta General Hospital, a liaison with Blue Cross and Blue Shield, and combined his love and respect for the elderly with his knowledge in the health care field to become a nursing home administrator for 30 years, before retiring to his home in the woods. Don enjoyed spending time with his extended family and his friends at Sully’s. He also enjoyed golfing with his sons and watching high school and professional sporting events. He is survived by his mother, Caroline Dunkerton of Winthrop; his former wife, Ramona Palleschi of Winthrop; his two sons, Dino Palleschi of Winthrop and Domenic Palleschi of North Monmouth; two daughters, Elizabeth “Betsy” Rowe of Winthrop and Liza Johnson of Carrabassett Valley; a brother, Dominic Palleschi of Rumford; a sister, Theresa Pendergast of Connecticut; six grandchildren, Jill Palleschi, Carla Ahern, Crystal Palleschi, Stephanie Palleschi, Shane Johnson and Tyler Rowe; three great-grand-children, Colby and Logan Bennett and Drake Ahern; along with several cousins, nieces and nephews.. Visiting hours will be held 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Roberts Funeral Home, 62 Bowdoin St., Winthrop. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 14, at St. Francis Xavier Church, 130 Route 133, Winthrop. Burial will be at Farrington-Morton Cemetery, Mexico, after the service.
