DONALD L. LEIGHTON SR. BREWER – Donald L. Leighton Sr., 59, went home to be with the Lord Friday, Aug. 22, 2008, surrounded by his family and friends, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born June 7, 1949, the son of Lloyd and Mildred (Young) Leighton. Don was employed for many years at Eastern Fine Paper, Brewer and was a veteran of the U.S. Army. Don enjoyed hunting, fishing and riding on his Honda Goldwing. He was predeceased by his parents; as well as a daughter, Katrina Sowards of Brewer. He is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Sheila; his two sons, Donald Jr. “DJ” of Bangor and Ralph Phillips of Salem, N.H.; two daughters, Denise Leighton of Tennesee and Dawn Worcester of Carmel; two sisters, Alberta Harnish and her partner, Lorraine Stormann, of Bangor and Katrina Chandler of Tennesee; grandchildren, Travis, Michael, Ethan, Cole and Emily; as well as several nieces and nephews. A celebration of life ceremony will be held 5-7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 27, at One Colonial Circle, Brewer Housing Authority community room. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to CancerCare of Maine.
