MILFORD – Donald Lawrence Holmes, 68, passed away May 17, 2008, surrounded by his loving family at his home. He was born Oct. 23, 1939, in Mars Hill, the son of Guy and Sarah (Mahan) Holmes. He attended Central Aroostook High School. Donald served our country in the Army during the Vietnam era and then later in the Army National Guard. In addition to working at Bangor Mental Health Institute, Donald drove bus for the city of Bangor. He is survived by his mother, Sarah Mahan Holmes Burnham; sister, Elizabeth Mc-Pherson and her husband, Norman Sr.; brother, Richard Holmes and his wife, Josiane; daughters, Starr Stuart and her husband, Gary, and Donna Dunphy and her husband, Roger; sons, Donald Currier and his wife, Debbie, Guy Currier and his wife, Melissa, and Joseph Holmes; grandchildren, Mike Stuart, Ashley Currier, Ryan and Kayla Currier, Gavin and Justine Dunphy, and Sativa and Raven Holmes; and good friend, Sonja Deprez; several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Donald was predeceased by his father; brothers, Ronald Holmes and Arnold Holmes; nephew, Norman McPherson; and great-niece, Sarah Holmes. Visiting hours will be held 11 a.m. until the funeral service begins noon Wednesday, May 21, at Birmingham Funeral Home, 438 Main St., Old Town. A private graveside committal with military honors will be held at the Maine Veterans’ Cemetery at a later date.
