CORINTH – Everett T. Hill, 76, died unexpectedly May 17, 2008, in Bangor. He was born Oct. 2, 1931, in Charleston, the son of Thomas A. Hill and Ione A. Hill. Everett was born and raised in Charleston, and attended school there. He enlisted in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and served from 1952 to 1954. In the armed services, he served in the motor pool, inspecting and driving trucks; even then people recognized Everett’s affinity with heavy equipment. When Everett returned home, he began working with his brother and father in a sawmill and working in the woods, which led to driving pulp truck. He enjoyed the independence of being self-employed and an owner-operator of his own tractor and trailer. Throughout the years, the type of load Everett hauled was varied from logs to the County, to potato seed from Maine to New York, to commercial foods on the return trip home. For the past 15 years, Everett stayed close to home and drove truck and operated equipment for E & M Construction, Old Town. He continued to drive and operate equipment right up to the time of his sudden illness. It was Everett’s time as a long-haul trucker that gave him a lot of experience of using the phone to connect with family. Throughout the years, he would visit his daughters and sons-in-law, and close friends on the phone. It will be those calls that his family and friends will miss the most. Everett was a kind, gentle and honest man; and family was first and foremost. He never missed a family gathering and the meal wouldn’t be complete unless it had Everett’s traditional favorite food, homemade baked beans. He is survived by one brother, Gerry Hill and wife, Pat, of Bucksport; sisters, Norma and husband, Jim, of Oregon, and Eleanor of Corinth. In addition to his brother and sisters, he is survived by three daughters from his first marriage, Sandra Hill and Dusty Rhodes of Scarborough, Linda Richards and husband, Roger, of Bradford and Lori Townsend and husband, Gilbert, of Corinth; and four grandchildren, Gilly Jr. and wife, Kristany, Shaun and wife, Desiree, Renee and husband, Greg, and Jason. Everett was predeceased by his wife, Judith Hill in 2006. They are survived by one daughter and two stepdaughters, Donna Hill of Corinth, Kristy Piniarski and Chris Smith of Orrington and Mel-anie and husband, Matthew Piskun of New Jersey; and four stepgrandchildren, Courtney, Victoria, Luke and Amanda. He had a network of special and dear friends, Eddie and Marilyn Costain, Floyd, Billy and Jane, who also received those special visits by phone. Everett will be sadly missed by all that knew him, especially his “girls.” A graveside funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 20, at Corinthian Cemetery, Corinth, with the Rev. Ed Costain, of Lagrange Full Gospel Assembly of God, officiating. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at Lori and Gilbert Townsend’s home, 326 Tate Road, Corinth, after the service. Gifts in his memory may be made to the American Heart Association, Maine Affiliate Inc., 343 Gorham Road, South Portland, ME 04106. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. Those we love remain with us, for love itself lives on. Cherished memories never fade because one loved is gone. Those we love can never be more than a thought apart, for as long as there’s a memory, they live on in our heart…
