ELLSWORTH – Donald “Red” Emm Carpenter, 85, died July 10, 2005, at an Ellsworth hospital. He was born Jan. 4, 1920, in Ancona, Ill., the son of Gerald D. and Ida A. (Emm) Carpenter. Red served in the U.S. Navy for 34 years. He received several decorations during World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam. He retired from the Navy April 1, 1971, and then worked as a real estate broker. Red was a member of the U.S Navy Cryptologic Veterans Association and the Fleet Reserve Association, a lifetime member of the VFW of Ellsworth and the American Legion of Trenton. He was a member of Aloha Shrine, Honolulu, Hawaii, Knights Templar of Okinawa, Blue Lodge of Sonoma, California and Lygonia Lodge No. 40 AF & AM of Ellsworth. Red was a charter member of the Ellsworth Elks Club, past President of Ellsworth Rotary Club and a Paul Harris Fellow. He also served as secretary of the Board of Directors of Hancock County Homes Foundation and was a member of the First Congregational Church, UCC, of Ellsworth where he served as past Deacon and Trustee. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Glenice (Blaisdell) Carpenter; a son, Kenneth P. Carpenter of North Carolina; two grandsons, Aaron Carpenter and wife, Monica, and Joshua Carpenter and wife, Alicia, all of North Carolina; one granddaughter, Abigail Carpenter of California, and special friend, Arthur, of Florida; one brother, Robert J. Carpenter and wife, Gloria, of California; a sister, Phyllis Griffith, of Maryland; a sister-in-law, Ruth Blaisdell and husband, Herbert, of Ellsworth; one nephew; and 10 nieces. Red was predeceased by his parents; and a son, Gregory S. Carpenter. Friends are invited to call 5:30-7 p.m., Wednesday, July 13, 2005, at Jordan-Fernald, 113 Franklin St., Ellsworth where Masonic Services will be held at 7 p.m. Memorial Services will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, July 14, First Congregational Church, UCC, 2 Church St., Ellsworth.
