CARIBOU – Donna Somers, 52, passed away Friday, March 14, 2008, with family and loved ones surrounding her at her home, after a long illness. She was born Dec. 18, 1955, in Caribou, the daughter of Kelton “Bruce” and Laura A. (Wright) Somers. In earlier years, she was employed by Cyr Brothers and also worked with her partner for many years. Donna also volunteered for Fort Fairfield Fire Department. Her spare time was taken up with quilt making and with Lillie McCarthy, Donnas’ single great- niece, who was the beacon of light that motivated Donna through her long sickness. Donna is survived by her partner of 27 years, Judson Drake of Caribou; two children, Tony Drake of Bangor and Liza Somers of Waterville; two brothers, Michael Somers of Northampton, Mass., and Thomas Somers and his wife, Debbie, of Bangor; also four sisters, Betty Moody and her husband, Richard, of Danbury, Conn., Linda Gallagher of Bangor, Patricia Skrable of Caribou, and Tammy and Scott Englund of Caribou. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Barbara Jean Somers; and a brother, Ronald Somers. A memorial service will be conducted 8 p.m. Monday at Lancaster-Morgan Funeral Home, 11 Clover St., Caribou, with the Rev. George McLaughlin officiating.
