HOWLAND – Dora Arlene (Delano) Tash, 73, wife of Gilman Abram “Abe” Tash, died July 3, 2007, at a Howland health care facility. She was born Aug. 25, 1933, in Brewer, the daughter of Forrest and Natalie (Runnells) Delano. Arlene was a member of Howland Baptist Church and the American Legion Auxiliary No. 97, of which she was past president. She graduated from Husson College and taught school locally in Lincoln, Greenbush, Mattawamkeag and Wytopitlock, in her younger years. She loved children and she faithfully attended every sports event in Howland. She was an avid sports fan. She spent the last four years of her life at Cummings Nursing Home, where she received loving care and the staff became part of her immediate family. In addition to her husband of 51 years, Abe, who she married June 16, 1956, she is survived by a daughter, Tonja Lee Tash; a favorite uncle, Edward Goodin; cousins, Dalton and Barbara Runnells; several other cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, who died at birth, Forrest Delano Jr. Friends may call 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Clay Funeral Home, 7 Lee Road, Lincoln. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Friday at the funeral home with her niece, Emma Jean Cook officiating. Interment will be at Howland Cemetery. After the committal service there will be a gathering at the American Legion Hall, Howland. In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to either the Howland American Legion Auxiliary or the activities fund at Cummings Healthcare facility.
