SKOWHEGAN – Dora M. Pratt, 89, of Skowhegan, died Wednesday, Aug. 24, 2005, at a Bangor hospital. She was born in Cutler, May 25, 1916, the daughter of John and Adeline (Maker) McGuire. Dora attended schools in Cutler; went to Washington Academy in East Machias and graduated from Skowhegan Area High School, Class of 1934. She married Robert S. Pratt on Dec. 25, 1936 and he predeceased her in 1966. Dora was employed as a hand weaver for American Woolen Mill in Skowhegan for many years; she was a sock line stamper for Norwock Shoe Co. in Skowhegan. She was a 50-year member and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star Sunset Chapter No. 53 in Skowhegan. She was a very active member of the All Saints Episcopal Church in Skowhegan. Dora enjoyed knitting, visiting with people and was a bird watcher. Survivors include a son, Richard J. Pratt and wife, Elizabeth, of Embden; four grandsons, Adam, Samuel, Jason and R. James; two great-grandsons, Christopher and Wesley; a sister, Blanche Nason of Skowhegan; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Edward, Harvey and Alton. Visiting hours will be from 2-4 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2005, at Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will take place 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, at the funeral home with burial following at Southside Cemetery.
