MILLINOCKET – Minnie Agnes Illingworth, 83, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2005, surrounded by her family. Minnie was born in Columbia, Maine, Aug. 26, 1921, and grew up in Fairfield. She was the daughter of Frank and Ann Galen. She graduated from Lawrence High School, married Roy Yerxa Illingworth in 1940 and raised her family in Millinocket. She was a committed member of the First Baptist Church of Millinocket, where she taught adult Bible study. After raising her family of eight sons and one daughter, Minnie moved to Portland in 1983, where she became an active and respected member of the West Falmouth Baptist Church and the Portland community. She was predeceased by her son, Roy Charles in 1949, her husband, Roy in 1978, her grandchild, Shaun in 2003 as well as her two brothers and five sisters. She is survived by Thomas Illingworth and his wife, Adele, of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mark and Andrea Illingworth of Holden, John and Sara Illingworth of Rochester, N.Y., Galen and Rhonda Illingworth of Millinocket, Scott Illingworth of Etna, Paul Illingworth and Tom Esten of Portland, Matthew Illingworth of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Helen Primak of Bradford, Mass. She also leaves behind many grandchildren, Thomas, Mark Davis, Erika, Christopher, Brianna, Beth, Susan, John Jr., Sara, Amber, Micah, Shelli, Sandra, Emily, Nicole, Benjamin and Rachel; great-grandchildren, Michael Christopher, Jonathan, Cameron, Cullen, Reannah, Carter and Connor. She also will be sadly missed by a special friend, Sarah Albert of Westbrook who took care of her following her stroke in May of 2005. Minnie’s life was devoted to her family and especially her many grandchildren. She had a very special relationship with each of them and was the heart of her large and sometimes boisterous family. She will always be remembered for her kindness, generosity and her unconditional love, and the many good meals and fudge, that never seemed to harden. Her wisdom and her sense of humor were inspiration during her life as well as during her journey towards the end of her life. A celebration of her life will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, 2005, at the West Falmouth First Baptist Church, 18 Mountain Road. A reception will follow in the fellowship hall of the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Minnie’s favorite charity, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 038105, Donation #14137941. Arrangements are under the guidance of Independent Death Care of Maine, 471 Deering Ave., Portland.
