DOVER-FOXCROFT – Dora Hope (Trueworthy) Gammon, 97, left this earth to join her heavenly family May 7, 2007. She was born July 14, 1909, in Westfield, the daughter of Percy and Laura (Brown) Trueworthy. Dora moved to Dover-Foxcroft in 1943. She was known for her servant’s heart. She worked as a nurse’s aid in local nursing and boarding homes, private duty and Mayo Memorial Hospital. Later she received her licensed practical nurse and worked in nursing until her retirement in 1972. Dora was active in her community. She was a member of county, state and local Grange, Eastern Star and AARP. Dora was the oldest member of the United Baptist Church, where she served in various capacities and especially supported missionary work. She was made honorary deaconess after years of service to the church. Dora also volunteered at Mayo Regional Hospital, Piscataquis Regional YMCA, and the Dover-Foxcroft Chamber of Commerce. Dora was predeceased by her husband of 71 years, Thomas Grovener Gammon. She was also predeceased by her oldest daughter, Marjorie Eldridge. She is survived by her son, Edgar Eugene Gammon of Dover-Foxcroft; and three daughters, Margaret Poulin and her husband, Raymond, of Naples, Doris Coy and her husband, Thomas, of Dover-Foxcroft, and Helen Brown and her husband, Patrick, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren brought her great joy and were the recipients of her wonderfully knitted hats and mittens. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Friends are invited to call 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 10, at Lary Funeral Home, Dover-Foxcroft. A celebration of Dora’s life will be held 1 p.m. Friday, May 11, at United Baptist Church, with the Rev. Rudy Homchuck and Pastor James Colley officiating. Burial will be in the family lot at Rural Grove Cemetery.
