DORIS (GETCHELL) SOUCY BANGOR – Doris Soucy, 91, wife of the late Robert Soucy, died Jan. 8, 2004, at a Bar Harbor healthcare facility. She was born June 1, 1912, in Presque Isle, the daughter of Clifton and Irene (Babcock) Getchell. She enjoyed speaking of her schooling at the one-room schoolhouse at Rocky Corner in Bangor, where her mother was the teacher. She graduated from Bangor High School in 1931. She was a member of the Bangor Symphony, playing first violin. She was a graduate of The Museum of Fine Arts School in Boston, and was an accomplished artist, musician, and jeweler. For the past 20 years she engaged in rigorous self-study in the area of alternative healthcare and healthy living. Doris diligently continued her written correspondence with family and friends until very recently. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by her son, Dominic Soucy; granddaughter, Christine Desroches; grandson, Jason Bosse; brothers, Clifton and Gerald Getchell; and sister, Irene Mosbacher. She is survived by her sons and daughters-in-law, Robert Jr. and Constance Soucy of Tamarac, Fla., Mark and Rosemary Soucy of Dedham, J. Soucy of Washington, D.C., Peter and Lynn Soucy of Dedham, Xavier and Anessa Soucy of Dedham, Mary Soucy of Portland; daughters and sons-in-law, Fayrene and Richard McLain of Dedham, Marie and Alan Desroches of San Jose, Calif., Ann and Joel Haley of Dedham; 17 grandchildren, Joan, Andrea, Ann, Denise, Matthew, Michelle, Alan, David, Seth, Orion, Daniel, Sarah, Rebecca, Noah, Brooke, Douglas, and Alexa. Friends may call 3-5 p.m. Sunday at Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Monday at St. John’s Catholic Church, with Rev. Rudolph Leveille celebrant. Spring interment will be at Evergreen Cemetery, Milo. The family invites relatives and friends to share conversation and refreshments at St. John’s Catholic Church Parish Hall, York St., Bangor, immediately following the Mass.
