OLD TOWN – Doris Flavie Michaud Nadeau died July 21, 2005, in Bangor. She was born March 16, 1919, in Old Town, to Alvine Lavoie and William Michaud. Doris graduated from St. Joseph’s Convent School in 1933 and upon completion of an aircraft repair course in Brewer in 1939, she became a “Rosie the Riveter.” She was employed by the air base in Presque Isle for several years servicing airplanes that flew in from Goose Bay, Greenland, and Gander Bay, Alaska. Doris married Walter H. Nadeau in 1947, raised seven children and enjoyed 49 years of marriage. She was a devoted wife and a loving, nurturing mother who took special pleasure rocking her babies and her grandbabies. She always had time to bake cookies, whip up a costume or make a show, and had an uncanny ability of making the simplest of family activities seem like celebrations of grand proportions and to make the humblest of foods seem like a feast. Doris was an accomplished seamstress and was often sought after for her superb alteration skills. She enjoyed swimming, saying the rosary, reading a good book, playing a good game of bingo, playing cards for pennies with her cousins, and she always had a special place in her heart for “Foxwoods.” Doris is survived by seven children, Walter Nadeau and his wife, Ranelle, of Woodbridge, Va., Eugenie and her husband, David Wollstadt of Old Town, Rebecca and her husband, Robert Oliver of Old Town, Mark Nadeau of Dixmont, Jeffrey Nadeau and his wife, Dorothy, of Wausau, Wis., Andrew Nadeau and his wife, Andrea, of Windsor, Mary Nadeau of Corinna. She is also survived by grandchildren, Melanie Nadeau, Zachary Nadeau, Andrea Wollstadt and her husband, Rob Duquette, Alexis, Rebecca, Rachael and Mary Wollstadt, Meredith Oliver and Amanda and her husband, Sam Dicentes, Marcie and her husband, Jason McIntyre, Mark Nadeau and his wife, Nike, and Erika Nadeau, Samantha, William, Alexis, Daniel and Nicholas Nadeau, Amanda Nadeau and Daniel Glover. She is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Brendon and Ian MacIntyre, Braeden Nadeau, Estella Duquette. Doris leaves one sister, Gloria Thornton of Milford; two brothers, Albert Michaud and his wife, Rita, of Old Town and John Michel of New York. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Walter H. Nadeau; her parents; two brothers, Roger and Benoit Michaud; three sisters, Rachael Roy, Adeline Cates, and Marie Ange Conroy. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 26, 2005, at Holy Family Parish in Old Town with the Rev. Wilfred Labbe Celebrant. Friends and family are invited to the Holy Family Parish Hall immediately following the Mass for a light luncheon and continued fellowship. A graveside committal service will be held at 1 p.m. at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Old Town. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
