PELHAM, Mass. and GUILFORD – Craig Lyman Dore died unexpectedly July 19, 2005, at the Maine Medical Center, in Portland. Born Aug. 18, 1938, in Bangor, he was the son of Guy E. Dore, M.D., and Doris Ladd Dore, of Guilford. He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Janice Campbell Dore; and two children, Melissa Lynn Dore of Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Christopher Craig Dore of Boston, Mass. In 1956, he graduated from Gould Academy in Bethel, and from the University of Maine at Orono in 1960. He served as a military policeman for the U.S. Army in Stuttgart, Germany from 1961 until 1963. For 35 years he worked throughout New England with the U.S. Department of Agriculture culminating as the Chief of Community Programs, in the Department of Rural Development for the states of Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and Connecticut. Through this agency he facilitated the financing of water and sewer projects, libraries, nursing homes, schools, and fire stations. He was an active member of the Amherst Railway Society and the Amherst Rotary Club. He served as moderator and deacon for the United Church of Pelham, as well as Pelham’s representative to the Pioneer Valley Transit Authority. Through his work and into his retirement, he was a strong advocate of mass transit. Craig was a devoted father, and loving husband who will be sorely missed by his family who loved him deeply.
