MANSET – Doris M. Riley, 88, died Oct. 9, 2007, at Birch Bay Village, Bar Harbor, after a long illness. She was born Dec. 25, 1918, in Providence, R.I., the daughter of Leo F. and Edna (Leduc) Riley. Doris attended schools in Cranston, R.I., graduating from Cranston High School and Rhode Island State College, Kingston, R.I. She earned her Bachelor of Science in social service from American University, Washington, D.C., in 1955. Doris worked for the Providence Public Library and went on to become chief librarian with the U.S. Tariff Commission, Washington, D.C., for 30 years, retiring in 1974. She had summered here for many years prior to making this her permanent home. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church, Manset; the Mount Desert Island League of Women Voters and the Embroiders Guild of America. Doris is survived by two sisters, Barbara Hart of Calera, Ala., and Mary Nolan of Miami. She was predeceased by a sister, Novella Sanders of St. Augustine, Fla. Graveside Services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 13, at Mount Height Cemetery, Southwest Harbor, with Father John O’Hara presiding.
