BELFAST – Dorothea G. “Mommy Dot” Black, died Aug. 30, 2005 at a Belfast healthcare facility. Dorothea was born at Sorrento, June 5, 1912, the daughter of Fred and Wavie Bunker Goodwin. Dot was a graduate of Sullivan High School and The Maine School of Commerce at Bangor. Mrs. Black’s life was complete being a wonderful wife and mother. Her days were filled with cooking, knitting, crossword puzzles and reading. In the mid 1950s Dorothea was a stringer for the Bangor Daily News which she enjoyed. Her happiest hours were when she was visiting with her family. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Dr. Russell S. Black in September 1998; a son, Bruce R. Black in February of 2000; a sister, Eleanor Hastings and a granddaughter, Judith Black. She is survived by three sons, Philip and Susan C. Black, James and Dorothy Black, David and Mary Black, all of Belfast; eight grandchildren, Duffy Woods, Rusty Black, B.J. Kent, Ricky Black, Angela Garard, Jennifer Rivera, Fred Black, and Genevieve Black; 11 great-grandchildren, Brandy and Brittany Woods, Kyle Black, Spencer and Parker Kent, Nicholas Bailey, Lauren Garard, Vincent Garard, Brooke Pinkham, Zachary Ziobron and Haley Black; one great-great-grandchild, Emily Anne Abbott. Graveside memorial services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 10, 2005, at the family lot in Grove Cemetery, Belfast. Donations in her memory may be made to the March of Dimes, 12 Acme Rd., Brewer ME 04412. Arrangements are with the Rackliffe Funeral Home, 54 Church St., Belfast.
