BREWER and HERMON – An angel was called back to heaven when Dorothy A. Tozier passed away Sept. 23, 2005, at a Brewer healthcare facility surrounded by her loving family. She was born July 24, 1918, in Carmel, the daughter of Dugal and Lilly (Brown) Purvis. Dot was a graduate of the Carmel High School, Class of 1934. She married the love of her life, Ralph H. Tozier Sr. Christmas Eve in 1937. They began their life together in Levant, where they resided for more than 40 years, and raised their only child, Ralph H. “J.R.” Tozier Jr. Dot was well known by the Town of Levant for her kindness, excellent cooking and homemade donuts. She enjoyed watching the neighborhood kids and her morning card games with the local ladies of Levant. As her son’s family grew he moved to Newburgh Road, Hermon. Being so devoted to her family, she and Ralph decided to follow J.R.’s family to Hermon and purchasing a home next door to his on the Newburgh Road. There she and Ralph were a daily part of their four grandchildren’s lives. They attended every school function, ball game, sold hotdogs at Little League games and bought anything that had to do with the grandchildren’s school fundraisers. Next to doting on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren her favorite hobby was feeding people. The crew at J.R.’s business, Hermon Motor’s, would often spend lunchtime at Dot’s where they enjoyed a nice “hearty dinner” where she always had enough for an extra guest. She enjoyed cooking, gardening and playing cards with the girls continued from Levant to Hermon. She often played Skip Bo games with Carol, the grandchildren, great-grandchildren, her sisters, and more recently her special friends, “The Girls” Frances, Helen and Helen. Dot had many joys in life. She and Ralph enjoyed years of snowmobiling as members of the Levant Snowmobile Club, following their son’s snowmobile racing career, fishing and boating across the state and at their camp on Green Lake. Family was always the most important joy of her life. Dot is survived by a son, Ralph “J.R.” Tozier Jr. and wife, Cindy, of Carmel; four grandchildren, Shelley Tozier and companion, Joe Knapp, of Hermon, Randy Tozier and wife, Maureen, of Hebron, Tammie Doughty and husband, Mark, of Brewer, Ronald Tozier and wife, Alicia, of Orrington; eight great-grand-children, Derek, Cody, Trevor, Nathan, Candace, Charles, Kyle, Nicholas; many nieces and nephews; and her dog, Frazier. All of her seven brothers and sisters predeceased her, husband, Ralph in 2000; and a great-grandson, Gabriel Scott Tozier. Graveside funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28, at Snow’s Corner Cemetery, Hermon, with Pastor Stan Griffin, pastor of the Cornerstone Baptist Church, Exeter, officiating. Gifts in her memory may be made to Pine Tree Children’s Camp, 149 Front St., Bath, ME 04530. A service of Brookings-Smith, 133 Center St., Bangor.
